Description
Writing, Books & Authors in New Troy
Writing, books, and authors will be celebrated at Author! Author! on Saturday, June 10, at the New Troy Community Center. Take a writing workshop, listen to an author’s presentation and reading, get fabulous deals on used books, and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine and nibbles while mingling with authors and readers. The event will begin with a Haiku Workshop. Haiku is a condensed form of poetry, a microcosm of a larger idea or feeling, that is brief, poignant, and powerful. Instructor Michael Kozubek has led many haiku workshops and has written and published over 200 haiku and other poems. He was awarded second prize in the International Section of the 2017 Mainichi Haiku Contest in Japan.
Vaughn Roycroft, author of “The Severing Son” and “Bold Ascension,” will give a presentation and reading. Roycroft will guide attendees through a sure-fire means to escape our whirlwind world of scrolling and binge-watching: immersion in a fictional world. A reading from “Bold Ascension” and question-and-answer period will follow. Signed copies of Roycroft’s books will be available for purchase.
Between the two sessions, guests will enjoy complimentary refreshments while they mingle and explore the Community Center’s Book Sale, which will offer spectacular discounts on hundreds of books.
Workshop seats are limited, so advance registration is recommended. Advance registration is not required for Roycrofts’s presentation.
This event is offered as part of Friends of New Troy's monthly Gather & events. The New Troy Community Center is owned, maintained and operated by Friends of New Troy, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, and is supported entirely by memberships, donations, fundraisers and grants.
