ST. JOSEPH, MI — Guests are invited to join the Box Factory for the Arts 1101, Broad St., this Halloween for a genre-bending night! Ellen Coplin and Sean Hoffman of Bobcat Opossum will take the Box Factory Stage on Saturday, October 31, from 7-9PM. This Folk/Americana duo with a love for harmony singing, the outdoors, and a song that tells a good story emerges from the back alleys of the Midwestern wilderness to provide an unforgettable night that draws inspiration from Irish, bluegrass, old-time, and classical music!

As songwriters, both Coplin and Hoffman weave tales of family, self-empowerment, and a good dose of wanderlust. Hoffman’s “Kissin’ In The Rain” (co-released in 2025 w/ their 7-piece band Debutants) won Folk Song of the Year at the Naptone Awards in their home state of Indiana. Multi-instrumentalists on fiddle, cello, guitar, piano, and concertina; their playing has been described as “virtuosic” by Kyra Dean (Tri-States Public Radio). 

They have toured, performed, and taught extensively across the United States, sharing the belief that music should be accessible to all, as it is an essential part of life. The pair also performs with the Debutants (an Indiana newgrass band), and Soltre’ (an Irish traditional band). In 2025, they shared stages with Shovels and Rope and Jason Carter Band (The Acorn, Three Oaks, MI), Grammy Award winners The Steeldrivers (Honeywell Center, Wabash, IN), roots/rock band The Steel Wheels (Redwing Roots Music Festival), and Damn Tall Buildings (The Ark, Ann Arbor, MI), among others.

As passionate teachers and performers, Coplin and Hoffman have also been working tirelessly to develop a new generation of musicians. As founders and co-directors of Debutants Hoot Camp and the Folky Fish Jam Camp, they have been working to empower student voices and provide equitable access to high-quality educational opportunities and music camp experiences.
