Description
Although Michiana is beautiful at any time of the year, it’s the summer that we all live for: long walks on the beach, family get-togethers in our parks, dining outdoors at some of the best restaurants in our region–and a whole host of activities at the Dunes Summer Theatre. This year is our most ambitious ever, bringing together artists from all over the country to create productions, special programs and expanded educational programs, including:
-
Three exciting productions in our historic Michiana Shores home, including the hilarious Tony Award-winng farce Boeing Boeing; Jonathan Larson’s deeply moving biographical musical tick, tick...BOOM!; and Christopher Durang’s comically off-kilter look at family and generational relationships, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike;
-
Our third annual Broadway Cabaret Hopes, Dreams and Flights of Fancy, presented this year on our beautiful campus and featuring old show-tune standards and soon-to-be classics from the Broadway songbook;
-
Our first-ever showcase of exciting new works by local writers, Voices from the Heartland;
-
An expanded series of meet-the-artists post-performance discussions, giving you a backstage look at the creative process;
-
A variety of new classes and creative experiences for young people, build- ing the next generation of artists, audiences and citizens;
As always, it takes a village to make a theater–and I am fortunate to have the best village of artists and supporters that one could hope for. The theater is one of the few places left in our world in which we can gather together and immerse ourselves in other stories, other worlds, and other ideas–and we are all honored by the joy and discernment you bring into our “home” every night.
