Description
Harbor Country Hikers (HCH) will be hiking the beach from Cherry Beach to Warren Dunes led by HCH Board Member Janet Schrader, better known as the Sand Pirate. We’ll be stopping periodically to hydrate and for Janet to tell some of her Lake Michigan sand stories, some may even be true. We may find a wave or two sneak-up on us, a nice and wide sweet spot to walk on, and will find three streams to cross. Bare feet, water shoes, or a pair of garbage bags can help us cross the streams with ease.
We will gather at our destination (Warren Dunes State Park, south beach house), shuttle to our start (Cherry Beach), then hike over three miles of beach back to our vehicles. From there, we’ll make our way to Harbert Community Park to enjoy a “bring-your-own-picnic” and many awesome conversations. The pavilion is ours from noon to 2p.
Give us a heads up by emailing harborcountryhikers@gmail.com> if you don’t have a MI State Park pass and would like to park and catch a ride to Cherry Beach from Harbert Community Park.
HCH has an All-Terrain Rollator which may be reserved for use on our hikes. Reservations are made by Emailing harborcountryhikers@gmail.com on a first-come first-served basis. The rollator does do sand but three miles of beach would be challenging.
In case of inclement weather, check our website/ FB page the day of hike for cancellation/ rescheduling notice. Dress in comfortable clothing and footwear that will probably get wet, a sun hat, sunscreen and insect repellent and bring plenty of water. Depending on the weather, the streams may be swift and over a foot deep (two garbage bags slipped over your feet and legs can be used to cross the streams). HCH hikers observe federal and state guidelines so mask wearing is optional.
